Popular Cho'Gath builds in game
Taken from the in-game loadout screen as of 2026-08-26. The pick count and win rate are shown exactly as the game reports them.
Cho'Gath rates high for durability and low for damage. There are two popular builds, and they share no item at all, yet their shape is the same: five of the six slots carry max health in each.
Choosing between them
What makes that stacking pay is how many of these items scale off it. Sunfire Aegis burns harder with bonus health, Thornmail reflects harder with it, Gargoyle Stoneplate's shield is a share of it, and Riftmaker converts bonus health straight into ability power. A champion who is tough and does little damage ends up somewhere unusual: defensive items are counted as offense.
Build 1 spends everything on absorbing damage. Thornmail punishes every attack that lands on Cho'Gath and applies Grievous Wounds on the way, so it fits enemies who attack a lot and heal to stay in fights. Gargoyle Stoneplate's active assumes he is the one being focused. Build 2 moves toward starting fights instead. Hextech Rocketbelt gives him a dash forward, and Riftmaker turns all that stacked health into ability power. Unending Despair and Mantle of the Twelfth Hour keep him standing mid-fight, so he can trade while taking hits. Take build 1 for raw toughness, build 2 when you need to close distance and deal real damage yourself.
- Heartsteel
- Sunfire Aegis
- Gargoyle Stoneplate
- Thornmail
- Amaranth's Twinguard
- Armored Advance
What each item is for
Heartsteel adds max health and regeneration, and its charged strike near an enemy champion permanently raises Cho'Gath's max health. Everything else in the build scales off that. Sunfire Aegis burns nearby enemies throughout a fight, with damage tied to bonus max health and a ramp that makes those targets take more the longer it burns them. It is how a low-damage champion gets output out of an armor item. Gargoyle Stoneplate carries both resistances and an active shield sized as a share of bonus health, so the more health he stacks, the thicker it gets. Thornmail reflects damage back at anyone attacking him, scaled by bonus armor and bonus health, and applies Grievous Wounds. Standing in front simply means it fires more often. Amaranth's Twinguard grows both resistances with combat time; a champion who survives to the end of a teamfight keeps it near its ceiling. Armored Advance reduces damage from champion attacks and shields him after physical damage, with armor and movement speed attached. Not one slot is a damage item, and yet the stacked health and armor are where build 1's damage comes from.
- Trinity Force
- Unending Despair
- Hextech Rocketbelt
- Riftmaker
- Mantle of the Twelfth Hour
- Crimson Lucidity
What each item is for
Trinity Force empowers the attack after each ability and brings max health, attack speed and movement speed, keeping a hand free to hit between casts. Unending Despair carries both resistances and periodically damages nearby champions while healing Cho'Gath for more than it deals. Its damage is a share of his own max health, so the health stacking feeds it. Hextech Rocketbelt supplies a forward dash. Cho'Gath does not close distance with foot speed, so this is where his engage comes from, and the item still carries ability power and health. Riftmaker converts bonus health into ability power and ramps his damage the longer a fight lasts. The reason to buy health becomes the reason he does damage. Mantle of the Twelfth Hour grants temporary max health when he drops low, plus slow resist and movement speed, which is insurance for having dived in. Crimson Lucidity adds ability haste and movement speed, and every cast pushes his speed up further. Build 2 shares nothing with build 1. Same health, spent instead on ability power and on getting into range.

League of Legends: Wild Rift (China) official champion library (patch 7.2, as of 2026-08-25)
The site's latest patch is 7.2d, but these figures come from 7.2. The 8 champions adjusted since then — Yone, Jinx, Leona, Rumble, Nasus, Ryze, Jayce, Nidalee — no longer match the live game.
A three-step guide set by the official champion library. For difficulty, a higher number means harder to play.
Critical damage is 175% for every champion. These figures exclude items and runes.
Cho'Gath Strengths
- ✓Max HP and range that keep growing with Feast stacks
- ✓A knock-up on Skill 1 and a silence on Skill 2
- ✓True damage from Ult that ignores the target's durability
Cho'Gath Weaknesses
- ×No dash or blink, which leaves his mobility low
- ×Modest health and range until Feast stacks build up
- ×A long Ult cooldown makes a miss expensive
Early Game
Early on, the knock-up and slow from Skill 1 keep the enemy from stepping forward. When it connects, stack the empowered attacks from Skill 3 for extra damage. The passive returns a little HP and mana on every kill, so farming beats forcing fights in this phase.
Mid Game
Ult deals heavy true damage to minions and smaller monsters, and every kill with it adds a Feast stack. Stacks from minions and non-epic monsters cap at six. Build max HP while you clear waves. As your size grows, the spikes from Skill 3 get wider too.
Late Game
With stacks banked, Cho'Gath becomes an oversized frontliner whose auto-attack range has grown as well. Skill 3 deals magic damage based on the target's max HP, so tanky enemies melt faster. Late game your job is to step up, land Skill 1, and buy your carries time to fire.
Teamfights
Skill 2's silence is the core of your teamfighting. Shut their abilities down for 1.4 to 2 seconds and knock several of them up with Skill 1 in that window. Save Ult for a carry who is already low. It deals true damage, so stacked resistances do not reduce it.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
Spending Ult on minions right before a fight
Ult has a 70 second cooldown, and still 50 seconds at max rank. Stacking it is worth doing, but using it on minions just as a fight starts means walking in with no way to remove the enemy carry. Hold Ult when an objective is about to be contested. Build stacks while the wave is safe.
Cho'Gath Combos
Basic Trade
Knock them up and slow them with Skill 1, then stack the empowered attacks from Skill 3.
Silence Combo
Silence their abilities for 1.4 seconds or more with Skill 2, then follow with the knock-up from Skill 1.
Full Combo
Knock up, add the silence, land the empowered attacks, then finish with Ult.
