Stack magic penetration, ride out dives in stasis

  • Luden's Echo
  • Horizon Focus
  • Zhonya's Hourglass
  • Rabadon's Deathcap
  • Void Staff
  • Spellslinger's Shoes

When enemies stack Magic Resistance and a diver can close on you

Void Staff carries 40% Magic Penetration, and across the build that comes to 48% plus 18 Magic Penetration. Horizon Focus reveals an enemy champion for 8 seconds and increases damage dealt to them by 10% once you damage them with an ability from 600 units away. Zhonya's Hourglass adds 40 Armor and a 2.5-second stasis on a 90-second cooldown. Those 2.5 seconds leave you unable to move, attack, cast abilities or use items, so the reset comes once the stasis ends, not during it.

Build 2Win rate 54.29%Picks 1,541

Break enemy shields, keep your own defenses up

  • Spellslinger's Shoes
  • Luden's Echo
  • Rabadon's Deathcap
  • Banshee's Veil
  • Oceanid's Trident
  • Malignance

When enemies lean on shields to survive and their main damage is magic

Oceanid's Trident's Lethal Weapon weakens any shield an enemy champion gains for 3 seconds after you deal ability damage to them, cutting up to 45% with area of effect abilities and up to 60% with single target ones. Banshee's Veil brings 40 Magic Resistance plus a spell shield that blocks the next hostile ability and returns on a 30-second cooldown. Malignance and Luden's Echo together account for 1000 Max Mana, and the build totals 35 Ability Haste.

Skill 1

Memory Surge

7.5s
Passive: This ability deals 1%–2.5% of the target's max HP as bonus magic damage (Lv) to enemies enlarged by Threads.

While charging:
- Norra can choose a direction to fire the bolt in.
- The bolt's range increases with charge duration.
- The bolt's damage increases with charge duration, up to a 140% bonus (deals max 77 damage).
- When fully charged, Norra activates all nearby Trinkets to fire at the first champion hit by the bolt.

Norra Strengths

  • Poke and zoning with long-range skills and portals
  • CC that banishes enemies to another dimension and applies heavy slows

Norra Weaknesses

  • ×Low mobility for self-defense; fragile when assassins get close
  • ×Tricky projectile speed and hitboxes demand accurate prediction

Early Game

Place portals to send missiles and harass from a position the enemy cannot reach. Watch your mana. Push your range advantage to keep control of the lane.

Mid Game

Deploy portals on your team's engage and provide covering fire from a safe distance. Firing skills through portals from outside vision creates ambushes that are hard to react to.

Late Game

Use portals for quick long-range rotations and to pull allies out of danger while controlling the map. If Norra gets caught, the team collapses. Stay at the very back, out of enemy range.

Teamfights

Break the enemy formation with the wide-area Ult and use portals to give allies better positioning. Keep dealing AP damage from the back without pause. Deliver your damage as the mage carry.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

Careless portal placement

Avoid dropping portals in random spots without a plan and giving the enemy an opening to dive you. Norra's lifeline is poke and zoning. Place portals on gank paths and teamfight choke points and keep harassing so enemies cannot approach. After level 5, land skills from a safe distance and control the map.

Norra Combos

Basic Trade

Charge Skill 1 to fire the magic arrow, slow them with the threads from Skill 3, then banish them for 1.5s with Skill 2.

Adjust
Norra's Skill 2 left almost no room to respond when she returned from the other dimension. A restriction has been added to make the follow-up easier to avoid. To a Place in the Middle of Nowhere Displacement duration: 2.25s → 1.5s When the displacement ends, the target is slowed by 80% for 0.75s. Targets spend 0.75s less in the other dimension, which shortens both Norra's window to line up a follow-up and the target's window before they can fight back. In exchange they reappear under an 80% slow for 0.75s, so simply walking away is harder than it was. Norra can no longer treat the cast as the whole play — she has to read where the target will return and have something waiting there.

Memory Wave Base Damage: 60/120/180/240 → 55/110/165/220 Portal Palooza! Damage: 100/150/200 + 60% AP → 100/140/180 + 55% AP Norra's main damage tool loses close to a tenth of its output at every rank, slowing both her lane trades and her wave clear. At rank 4 the drop from 240 to 220 means some targets she used to finish with a full combo now survive it. Portal Palooza! keeps its rank 1 value and only loses power at ranks 2 and 3 plus the AP ratio, so the nerf bites hardest late. Relying on one ultimate to close out a fight is less dependable with a finished build.

Nerf
Journey to Nowhere (W) Cooldown: 18/17/16/15s → 23/22/21/20s This is the ability that let Norra keep constant pressure on the enemy — while it was available, stepping forward was risky for anyone. Pushing the cooldown from 18/17/16/15s out to 23/22/21/20s leaves a much longer gap after each cast, and that gap is when the enemy team gets to make its move. Norra now pays a real price for missing, so holding the ability until the cast is guaranteed becomes the correct habit.

Journey to Nowhere (Skill 2) Cooldown: 18/16.5/15/13.5s → 18/17/16/15s Damage: 75/115/155/195 → 65/105/145/185 The crowd control on this ability had made Norra a stronger support than intended. Rank 1 is unchanged, but rank 4 goes from 13.5s back up to 15s, so ranking the ability no longer speeds up the rotation nearly as much. The flat 10 damage cut also means the crowd control comes with less chip damage attached, which gives the enemy a real window to fight back.

Beloved Trinkets (Passive) Cooldown reduction on hitting a champion: 1.5s → 20% of maximum cooldown Memory Wave Slow when the charge begins: 25% → 20% Maximum slow while charging: 55% → 30% Cooldown: 8/7/6/5s → 7.5/6.5/5.5/4.5s Base damage: 60/110/160/210 → 60/120/180/240 Journey to Nowhere (Skill 2) The duration calculation for the thread's size increase during this ability has been optimised. The size increase timer now pauses while the target is in the other dimension. Threads of Homecoming (Skill 3) [NEW] Deals 115% damage to monsters and minions Norra lagged behind other mages in survivability and wave clear, so she is brought level without adding risk to her pattern. Memory Wave gives up slow strength in exchange for 0.5s off the cooldown and up to 30 more base damage from rank 2, which lets her clear a wave in one go far more often. Swapping the passive's flat 1.5s refund for 20% of maximum cooldown means the longer an ability's cooldown, the more of it comes back. Skill 3 dealing 115% damage to monsters and minions is a direct boost to her farming speed on top of that.
